Install Active Directory (AD) on Windows Server 2022
1. Open the "Server Manager" by clicking on the "Server Manager" icon in the taskbar or by searching for it in the Start menu.
2. In the Server Manager, click on "Add roles and features" from the dashboard or select it from the "Manage" menu.
3. The "Add Roles and Features Wizard" will open. Click "Next" on the Before You Begin page.
4. Select "Role-based or feature-based installation" and click "Next".
5. Choose the appropriate server from the server pool and click "Next".
6. From the list of server roles, select "Active Directory Domain Services". A pop-up window will appear, asking you to add the required features for AD DS. Click "Add Features" and then click "Next"
7. Review the information provided on the Active Directory Domain Services page and click "Next".
8. On the Features page, you can review the features that will be installed with AD DS. Click "Next" to proceed.
9. On the AD DS page, you will see a brief description of Active Directory Domain Services. Click "Next".
10. Review the information on the Confirmation page and click "Install" to begin the installation process.
11. After the installation is complete, you will see a "Promote this server to a domain controller" link. Click on it to start the Active Directory Domain Services Configuration Wizard.
12. In the Configuration Wizard, select "Add a new forest" if you want to create a new Active Directory forest. If you want to add this server to an existing forest, select "Add a domain controller to an existing domain". Provide the required information and click "Next".
13. Set the forest functional level and the domain functional level, and specify the Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) password. Click "Next".
14. Choose the location for the Active Directory database, log files, and SYSVOL folder. By default, these are stored on the system drive, but you can change the locations if needed. Click "Next".
15. Review the DNS options and click "Next".
16. On the Additional Options page, you can specify any additional options if required. Click "Next".
17. On the Paths page, you can specify the folder paths for the AD DS installation if needed. Click "Next".
18. Review the information on the Review Options page and click "Next".
19. The wizard will run a prerequisite check. If everything is satisfactory, click "Install" to begin the installation process.
20. The server will be restarted automatically after the installation is complete.
